about me!
Karimah Zaiter’s practice centres around finding and exploring the overlapping nature of both art and science and how the two work harmoniously. The portrayal and artistry in data and graphs is at the very core of their work, asking questions such as ‘What does data become when it’s rid of its context and labellings?’ and ‘Can data be perceived as art?’. Karimah Zaiter explores such through multi-media means, often gravitating towards textiles and coding and sound. The rich history and cultural impact of textiles on technology, data science, and science feminism are at the very forefront of their work thematically. They bring life to the flatness of data through making process based or ephemeral work, often using notebooks to document and give a viewer accessibility to the often restricted knowledge of science, in the every day, bringing the invisible to light much like scientific graphs do for their data.
Karimah Zaiter is also a part of a collective by the name of Boots.Boot. While the collective all range in media and themes, they are all passionate about the art of technology, from the past, present and future. Boots.Boots plans to use technology as their outlet in a wide variety of ways; preservation, reconstruction, and accessible teaching.
